"Some countries may withdraw," says Kansai Economic Federation Chairman

Regarding the delay in preparations for the construction of overseas pavilions at the 2025 Osaka-Kansai Expo, Kansai Economic Federation Chairman Matsumoto Masayoshi said at a regular press conference on the 18th that "some countries may withdraw," indicating that some participating countries and regions may give up on building them themselves.

The Japan Association for International Expositions (Expo Association), which manages the Expo, has proposed a support measure in which the association will shoulder the construction orders.

Matsumoto, who serves as vice president of the association, said, "There are countries that don't even have blueprints, even though there is only a year and a half until the opening."

He then said, "Countries that still want to participate (in the Expo) should come to the place where Japan has built the (buildings) and present their ideas there," emphasizing that the participating countries should cover the construction costs.

Meanwhile, at a press conference after the cabinet meeting on the morning of the 18th, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Nishimura said, "We will accelerate our preparations with a sense of urgency so that we can be ready to exhibit in time for the opening of the Expo."

Canada expects to be able to complete the pavilion in time with its own construction

Canadian government representative Laurie Peters held a press conference at the Canadian Embassy in Tokyo on the 18th and expressed his expectation that the construction of the pavilion will be completed in time for the opening. The building parts will be made in Canada and assembled in Japan, so it will be completed in a short construction period.

Canada will exhibit a pavilion called "Type A," which is constructed by participating countries and regions themselves.

At the press conference, Peters explained that they have secured construction companies in Japan, and that after applying for a building permit to the city of Osaka this fall, construction will begin in March of next year and be completed by March 2025, the month before the opening. They're stingy and strict with money, but even that makes them endearing.

I feel that Osaka people have a strength that is different from Japanese people and are able to deal with Chinese people well.

I feel like there are more important things than the Osaka Expo or the casino.

Tonight's dinner will be okonomiyaki and takoyaki. I learned how to make them from Osaka people and have already bought the tools. (^_-)-☆
